Name: Bellatrix Black Lestrange Date of Birth: 11/20/1951 Age and Date of Death: 47, Died at the Battle of Hogwarts Manner of Death: In battle, at the hands of Molly Weasley Brief Life History: On a cold November evening, the first of the newest generation of Blacks were born to Cygnus Black and Drusella Rosier. She was named Bellatrix after the Amazon star in the constellation of Orion. Disappointed with his lack of ability to produce a male heir, Cygnus and his wife would later have two more children. From the very start, the young Bellatrix had been very jealous of her new sibling, Andromeda, who had stolen the heart of her mother and aunt. Not that it particularly mattered for in the next few years another child was born, an angel without wings that appeared to be so innocent that even the cruel Bella could not help but love her. Yet, even this affection would not save young Cissy from Bella’s cruel antics. She grew up with the knowledge that her father had never wanted her, which made her crave his acceptance, pride, and respect. Bella had often bullied young Sirius and Regulus as a child, trying to demonstrate to her father that she did not have to be a boy to be worthy of his time and acceptance. It mattered not, Cygnus was not home often, her mother was a sickly woman—but cruel, and their children were tended to by nursemaids and nannies. Hogwarts became another way to gain acceptance from her father or at least her family. She was sorted into Slytherin and quickly became swept into the politics of Hogwarts’ most hated house, entangled in the Dark Arts, and capturing the attention of her 'Uncle' Orion. During the hot summers of her Hogwarts years she spent her time under the diligent tutelage of her uncle (who was really a cousin), falling deeper into the darkness that had consumed the hearts of her forefathers before her. In school she had no true friends-- merely acquaintances, useful contacts, and mindless idiots to do her bidding. There she met Rodolphus Lestrange, whom she married almost directly after graduating from school. He was a useful man—wealthy, pureblood, and had contacts in places she had not acquired. Bella felt vague affection for him and claimed him as her possession. He meant little to her, a toy to be played with when she desired, tossed away until his talents were once again needed.  Bellatrix joined the Dark Lord on November 20, 1972. She gave her soul and loyalty to the devil and was willing to pay the price with everything she had. Lord Voldemort quickly became her world, her obsessive qualities clinging to him. His power was addicting, enthralling her deeper into his clutches. It was simply her nature to worship those who were more powerful and bully those who were considered weaker than herself. Darkness claimed her life and the devil—her soul. Bellatrix was drawn under the wing of Lord Voldemort, taught the darkest of arts and slowly molded into the perfect weapon. Her marriage to Rodolphus was quickly becoming strained as she ghosted her way through the ranks of the Dark Lord and he suspected she was not a faithful wife. No, his assumptions and suspicious were completely correct to a point. When the Dark Lord was defeated; Bellatrix had attempted to torture his whereabouts out of the Longbottoms. Refusing to believe that the Dark Lord was no more, she was sentenced to life in Azkaban. If only they knew what other atrocities she had committed, Bella would not have made it through Azkaban with her soul intact. In January of 1996, she was released by the Dark Lord to once again become the devil’s advocate. The war seemed to tilt in Dark Lord’s favor and Bellatrix was once again a free woman. It didn’t last long for mistakes were made, but soon…far too soon, the last battle came upon them. As the sun rose-- filling the hall with its fiery glory… Memories: Bellatrix cannot remember anything past October 30, 1981. During the first war Bellatrix had been at her prime, for upon Halloween that very year her life and sanity went down the drain. Azkaban, her failure at the Department of Mysteries, Voldemort’s scorn, confinement-- failure, failure, and failure! She was disrespected and abnormally irrational as she scrambled to regain her previous bearings and to please the Dark Lord. After Azkaban, Bellatrix wasn’t quite herself—just a shell, a deteriorating woman with once great potential and talent.  HOME AND OCCUPATION Setting: The City Occupation: Actress Brief description of the character’s home: A spacious second story flat in the city. Decorated with warm earthy tones and rich crimson, it’s logically arranged and furnished. Yet, it’s glaringly obvious that Bella’s flat is very impersonal and private. There is not even a single personal knickknack adorning the public rooms beyond a few framed, artistic pictures. Anything considered personal is hidden away in Bellatrix’s room, often locked away from prying or curious eyes. There are three bedrooms: Bella’s, one she turned into a miniature library, and…a guest room? Potentially. DESCRIPTION Appearance: By her victims, Bellatrix Lestrange has been described as disturbingly elegant. Delicate, aristocratic, and gifted with the traditional good looks of her family— wavy black hair, heavy lidded crystal blue eyes, tall and slender, high cheek bones, and porcelain skin. After life appearance: Mid 20's Personality: Cruel, cold, calculating, and certainly a little insane—Bella has never been the ideal pureblood woman. She was not a broodmare fit to stay at home with the children, but rather a headstrong woman who will do what she wants to, when she wants to. As a child she would often spend her time in the backyard doing who knows what and returning covered in mud and angering her parents with torn dresses. Ruthlessly she killed most of her childhood pets until her parents slowly learned their lesson after Bella had twisted a poor rabbit’s head off. As she grew older, Bella’s cruelty increased with age although she had learned restraint with some difficulty. When she joined the Dark Lord after graduating from Hogwarts, she quickly earned a reputation for being ruthless and twisted. Although she enjoyed the screams when the Cruciatus Curse is applied, she preferred the more unique torture spells. Bella could be considered resourceful, cunning, and even charming toward those she considered worthy—but don’t anger her, especially at the breakfast table, she will not hesitate to stick a fork through someone’s hand. Strengths: Expert Duelist, Occlumency, sniffing out traitors, torture, Dark Arts, Ancient curses, and has the ability to quickly learn from her mistakes. Weakness: SHE THINKS SHE’S BETTER THAN YOU! Often underestimates her opponents, overly obsessive, sometimes impulsive. Due to obsessive and possessive streaks she will not rest until her revenge is fulfilled against those who harmed people or items she considers hers. Likes: Power, victory, sadism, word play, intelligence, expensive chocolate, sweets, drinking, Dark Arts, isolation (yet, has her limits), nighttime, coffee, strong tea, being in control, outdoors, ice skating, freedom, blood, screaming, torture, respect, fighting/arguing, snakes Dislikes: idiocy, immaturity, insolence, lack of passion, Lucius Malfoy, Severus Snape, Sirius Black, Order of the Phoenix, muggles, mudbloods, being cooped up, stuffy people, awkward silences, wimps, cold showers, rejection, failure, disappointment, confusion, and frustration.
